Vazhakulam, My hometown lies in east of Muvattupuzha in Ernakulam district. Its the halfway point which connects the Thodupuzha Muvattupuzha road. The town is more or less famous as "The Pineapple City"of Kerala. Every family in Vazhakulam has their own Pineapple farms,Crazy huh but true! ..Even my family owns one..So that makes me a proud owner of Juicy Pineapples..Its kind of the symbol of prosperity in the town. So we have it for breakfast as fruit- healthy breakfast ;)again after lunch maybe a glass of juice and after dinner just for the digestion purpose. We export Pineapples to all parts of the world.. Wow just to see the National Permit Lorries loaded fully with Pineapples, seeing the face of my uncles or relatives (Here all are our uncles) and their happiness since its gonna be party time for couple of months as the deal is on .
Talking about the history of my land, I guess all were born as Christians..contradictory to a few hindu people here and there, rest all the same..The Theme of Sunday after church is the famous Kappa and Beef, formerly known as Asiad - weird name though.. Well you can say its a mixture of tapioca steamed and beef bones ! It may not be of great interest for the oldies without teeth :)
Even though Coconut is the state tree, We Vazhakulaites have the Jack Fruit Tree (Plavu) as tree of common man, We have a plavu in front of every house,Its like a personal pride. The fruit of the tree known as "Chakka" can be used to prepare variety of dishes eg - Chakka Puzhukku, Chakka varatiyadu, Chakka ada, Chakka pazham can be eaten once its ripe mmm so yum...The leaf of this tree is given as food for our goats and cows and they give us milk in return. Other than this tree one can find the major attraction "Rubber Trees". Its like the gold of our town, every morning seeing the rubber milk ( Latex) flowing into the cups (Chirattas) wow..
N.B : The leaf of this tree cannot be given as food for our goats and cows,if given it will be their last meal :P

Okay apart from the flora and fauna , Vazhakulam is, no actually was famous for Volley ball. This town contributed many good players to the Indian volley ball. Well nowadays unlike every other Parts of India Cricket has taken the Crown of glory...Even the kid with a chaddi playing in a mud land ( Kandam) with a piece of wood from coconut ( Madakkala) wants to be in Indian team !
Despite all these the people of my City are very lovable...They are confined within the limits of this city, so busy with their daily lifes and gossiping around, Noone cares about the outside world, Its a world within the world and I am glad that God gave me the opportunity to be born into the land of Pineapples!

Is This place is Vazhakkulam? Beautiful!!
