In India, discriminatory attitudes towards women have been existing for generations and has affected their lives a lot. Even though the constitution of India has granted women equal rights but gender discrimination still remains. Everyday you get to hear about a female child being murdered just because the parents dont want the burden of a girl child.Well I am not gonna be writing one of those boring articles about discrimination to girls.
This incident was an eye-opener to me, which happened in my own family.
Last week when I reached home, there was a new member in my backyard awaiting my arrival. It was a cute little puppy dog who was just about 2 or 3 weeks old.I called it Henry. It came wandering to our home a week ago and my Bro , who is a dog lover sworn to protect it with his life. Everyday he would feed Henry, wash him and play with him. When one our neighbours told us that Henry is a She-Dog :O ....the next moment my family was up to abandon him or she...(I would rather call it Henry despite of gender) My own brother who had taken the Oath to protect Henry backed out the second he knew it was a girl. He said we would rather dump it near the Canal, I dont want a girl dog, I want a male dog to be my buddy.Even the servant in my house asked me to throw the puppy out of our home, the reason was simply it will become big, get pregnant and we will be having full of puppies in home!!!I dont understand how can it be a bad thing??? The final decision is yet to be made in my home if to keep the puppy or abandon it :(I was wondering what if my parents also had thought like this?? I wouldn't be alive out here then!My brother who is in his mid-twenties if now he thinks like girls are a burden, what will be the future of this nation?I feel no shame to tell that I live with a male chauvinistic pig in my home.I have reminded my brother about his word to protect the puppy which he gave earlier.I hope my brother will be a man of his words....
Writing with lot of frustration and pain from within my home.
